The Online Notary provides in-person and remote or virtual commissioning and document-witnessing services, which may be casually described as "online notary" or "online notarization," while remaining fully compliant with Ontario's legal and regulatory framework. Our services are delivered by properly authorized professionals, including commissioners for taking affidavits and other individuals empowered by law to administer oaths, solemn affirmations, and statutory declarations under the Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act (Ontario) and related statutes.
Online or remote notarization is not currently recognized as a formal notarial act under Ontario law. For this reason, The Online Notary does not conduct online notarial acts, such as the end-to-end digital notarization of documents. Any use of terms like "notary," "online notary," or "notarize online" on this site is purely informal and descriptive, and is not intended to suggest that formal notarial acts are performed remotely. These references relate exclusively to our compliant remote commissioning and virtual witnessing offerings, which are legally distinct from traditional notarial acts that must be completed in person by a notary public.
